Will daily masturbation to orgasm cause problems for me?

Published:

Dear Sex Counselor,

If you masturbate (and ejaculate) at least once a day will it cause things not to feel good when you have sex and oral sex? Will it make it harder to ejaculate?

For some people, it won’t matter if you masturbate to ejaculation on a daily basis. For some people, it actually slows down the time it takes to orgasm in a good way (that is, they come too fast without regular masturbation and orgasms to keep them from coming too soon). For others, it will slow down their responses enough that they will take a lot longer to have an orgasm and ejaculation, and it may mean they’ll need more intense stimulation when they are with a partner.

The best thing to do is experiment. Hold off from masturbation every other or every three days and see what happens when you’re with a partner. Then masturbate to orgasm daily for a week or two and compare things with the time when you held back. If you find yourself coming too soon without the daily masturbation, then by all means, start your daily pleasures again. But if you find that your partner just can’t provide enough stimulation for you when you masturbate daily, you either want to incorporate some toys (prostate stimulation and vibrator play externally on you) or withhold your orgasms’ frequency a bit.

Thanks for a great question!
